The 7A may be Shindo's first phono-only equalizer pre amplifier. Many of the earlier pre amplifiers had single MM inputs so this may have been designed to meet customer requests.

Shindo's phono-only products have always been a niche product with a niche market so sales were probably low. I can find very little documentation on the 7A and Martine and the images you see are everything I've seen.

This is a phono-only equalizer pre amplifier with three sets of phono inputs at fixed impedances: 50kΩ, 100kΩ, and 150kΩ. I can find no documentation except a snippet of a review from Stereo Sound No. 90, published March 1989, by Fumio Hayase:

"a two-stage P-K feedback NF type tube equalizer amplifier. It has three inputs, with input resistances set to 50kΩ, 100kΩ, and 150kΩ. It also features output level control. The vacuum tubes used are two 12AX7s, two 6350s, and one 6CA4 rectifier tube. It is based on the phono section of the legendary Marantz #7 tube preamplifier, but its distinguishing feature is the use of a transformer in the output. It uses high-precision parts from companies like Dale and Allen-Bradley, and has been refined into a modern amplifier."

Given the input impedances we can assume this is moving magnet only. The 7A was removed from the line up in favor of the Martine by late 1990.

The Martine replaced the 7A in the Shindo lineup by late 1990. This is a phono-only equalizer pre amplifier with MC and MM inputs and an undefeatable RIAA deviation. Dual-mono units were used for channel separation, a trend in Shindo pre-amplifiers started by the Petrus in 1988. A single gain control on the back of the each unit was designed as a set-and-forget option.

I can't find a single image of the Martine other than the marketing photos indicating this may not have sold well and removed from the market quickly
